We have a focus on acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs), which have a potential role in neuronal degeneration associated with stroke and neuronal inflammation. Therefore, small molcule inhibitors of these channels are highly desired. Another focus is the related bile acid sensing ion channel (BASIC or BLINaC) which has unknown physiological functions. Small molecule inhibitors could help to unravel the role of BASIC/BLINaC.



Electrophysiology: Two-electrode voltage clamp with Xenopus oocytes, excised patches and
single channel analysis; whole cell patch clamp with cell lines and primary neuronal cultures

  • Support to develop novel small molecule inhibitors and modulators of ASICs and BASIC.
  • Support to synthesize unnatural amino acids for structure-function studies.
